LWL Updates
  • 5/4/22: Four pairs of American Oystercatchers are currently nesting on County restoration islands in the central part of the Lake Worth Lagoon. No trespassing signs have been posted at these islands to ensure the birds and their chicks aren't disturbed.

  • 3/22/22: Construction is underway on the Lagoon's newest bird nesting island in the central lagoon, Palm Beach Resilient Island, north of the Southern Blvd. Bridge. The project will build a bird-nesting island surrounded by planted mangroves, oyster reefs and breakwaters. This project is built in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

  • 3/21/22: Those working in the Lagoon ecosystem and/or other Florida estuaries, are invited to submit an abstract about their work for presentation at the Lake Worth Lagoon Science Symposium to be held November 15, 2022. The deadline to submit abstracts is July 8th. All the information for the Symposium and to submit an abstract can be found at https://conference.ifas.ufl.edu/lagoon/call-abstracts.php.
